More detailed genetic mapping has revealed a possible sub-species of our own species, one of which we were previously unaware. (aside: that was a very difficult sentence, not sure I pulled it off either) It seems that trace evidence has revealed a hominid that meandered about 30,000 years ago and interbred with all the other hominids was in the mix.
We know next to nothing about these buggers, but were probably gnomes or dwarves.
